Settembre deriva dal latino septem, sette, il settimo mese nel calendario romano, il quale iniziava originariamente in marzo (per quello settembre risultava il settimo mese). Nel 46 a.c. Giulio Cesare riformò il calendario spostando indietro di 2 mesi il calendario al 1 gennaio e stabilendo la durata dell’anno in 365 giorni (con un anno di 366 giorni ogni quattro anni) e 12 mesi.

September from septem, which is Latin for seven was the seventh month of the Roman calendar, which originally started in March (making September the 7th month).
