grammar spot: english made easy - for or since?



James is 40. He teaches history.
He has been teaching for 13 years.
He has been teaching history since he was 27.

We use for to express a period of time. (How long)
For example: 5 minutes, A week, 10 years, an hour, a long time, 6 months, 20 years, 5 minutes

James has been cycling for 5 minutes | for a week | for 10 years | for a long time,

We use since to express a point in time. (A moment)
For example: Last week, Friday, 9:00 this morning, he was young, after the crisis started, read a book, went to bed, moved to America…

James has been complaining since last week | since Friday | since 9:00 this morning | since he was a baby…

James has lived in Chicago since he moved to America. He has been living in America for 34 years.

It has been raining for 3 hours. It has been raining since 2pm.

Business has been going well since the beginning of the year. Business has been going well for 5 months.
